Love On The Spectrum: A Wholesome Series On Finding Love

I thought I had seen it all when it came to reality tv shows dealing with dating and trying to find love. You have your widely popular The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise or the gimmicky version of dating where couples are married at first sight, engaged for 90 days or blindly fall in love by talking to each other without being able to see the other person. No offense to those shows, but Netflix’s new series Love On the Spectrum has made me fall in love with the idea of finding love all over again, while also shedding light on a community’s struggles that they face in order to try and find it.

As someone who likes to joke around and be dramatic about how I will be forever alone while my two best friends are in serious relationships and I’m as single as a Pringle, I never once thought to ask myself how hard it might be for people with Autism to find love? For a group of individuals who struggle with social cues and reading other people’s emotions, dating might not be as easy to them as it is for the rest of us. This Netflix series does a great job of focusing on individuals who are on the Autism spectrum and may be viewed differently by the rest of society, but who want the same thing we all want at the end of the day, which is to find love.

You’ll follow the lives of Michael, Chloe, Kelvin, Maddi, Olivia, Mark and Andrew as they search for love. You’ll also follow the lives of Ruth and Thomas and Jimmy and Sharnae who have been lucky enough to have found it with each other.

The show will make you laugh when Michael says, “A lot of people our age aren’t interested in commitment. They’re only interested in intercourse.” (I mean he’s not wrong lol) It’ll make you smile when you see Maddi practicing different scenarios she might face on her date with her parents in their kitchen. It’ll make you sad when you see Mark struggle to talk to a girl because his anxiety is getting the best of him and causing his mind to go blank. In the end, however, it’ll make you wish there were more than five episodes because it is that good.

Sweet Magnolias: A Small Town Show Filled With Big Time Drama

As you enter the world of Serenity, South Carolina you can’t help but notice that this slow-paced series revolves around a town where everybody knows everybody (especially when it comes to everybody knowing everybody’s business).

It’s a series that relies heavily on friendship and the power that having good friends by your side can have when you go through some of the biggest and most painful curveballs that life throws at you.

Despite being a small town, the drama that unfolds is big enough to fill the largest town and then some. You’ll see infidelity, unexpected new romances, shocking revelations and a cliffhanger that you’ll need to buckle up for because you will not see it coming. Netflix will also keep you waiting until season 2 comes out next year to give you the answer you’re searching for.

It’s a great show that deals with real life issues and a perfect series to have a virtual watch party with some friends. Be sure to whip up some margaritas of your own and pour it out in the process!

Hope you enjoyed this special double series Netflix review. As always be sure to stay safe, streaming and stay tuned for next week’s Netflix review!
